The position was earlier held by Lt Gen Manoj Pande, who has taken over the command of Army’s frontier Gajraj Corps. Lt Gen Ahuja is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, and was commissioned in Bengal Sappers in December 1981.
CBI officials said a case has been registered against five faculty members, including the Principal of the academy, a professor from the Political Science department, two assistant professors of Chemistry and Mathematics and one head of the department.
When contacted, DCP Basavraj Teli said, “I have spoken to the police station concerned. No complaint has been received from the girls. There cannot be an FIR unless the families of the girls come forward.”
According to the protesters, of the 401 families who had lost the land to the National Defence Academy 1967, 54 are still to get the houses. The families were to get homes in Kakade City, a project by Kakade Constructions, which is owned by Sanjay Kakade, now a BJP MP.
The CBI had received complaints regarding serious malpractice by some members of the civilian faculty at NDA in the recruitment process, which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. These faculty members allegedly submitted fake documents.
President Ram Nath Kovind expressed confidence that the graduating cadets would prove worthy successors to the "unflinching and fearless officers" who have preceded them. He also advised the cadets to draw courage from the NDA motto of 'Seva Paramo Dharma' as these three words should be their personal code of ethics.
