Pune Porsche crash case: MLA Tingre’s recommendation letter for tainted doctor resurfaces to embarrass NCP
The letter was written by Tingre on December 26, 2023 to the Minister for Medical Education and Research Hassan Mushriff and Dr Taware was appointed as the Medical Superintendent in the same year.

An old letter of recommendation written by Vadgaon Sheri MLA Sunil Tingre, recommending Dr Ajay Taware for the post of Medical Superintendent, Sassoon Hospital, has come back to haunt the MLA as police arrested Dr Taware for his role in allegedly throwing away the blood sample of the juvenile involved in the Porsche crash.
The letter was written by Tingre on December 26, 2023 to the Minister for Medical Education and Research Hassan Mushriff and Dr Taware was appointed as the Medical Superintendent in the same year.
In his letter, Tingre recommended Dr Taware as personally known to him. “During the Covid-19 crisis he had done commendable work. I request you to take proper steps at your level to appoint him as the Medical Superintendent,” the letter read. Back then, Dr Taware was working as the Head and Professor of the Department of Forensic Science, post which he became the Medical Superintendent.
Dr Taware was removed twice from his post of Medical Superintendent, once for his alleged role in the kidney transplant racket involving the Ruby Hall Clinic in 2022 and another time in April this year due to the rat bite incident in the hospital.
The letter had surfaced when the police had busted the major drug cartel involving Lalit Patil which was allegedly being run from the Sassoon Hospital. Back then, Tingre had said as public representative many people ask for recommendations and he had issued the same. Following the recent incident, the letter has resurfaced again.
Mushriff was unable for comment despite repeated calls to him as he was busy in a party meeting in Mumbai.
On Monday, Dr Taware and Dr Srihari Harnol were arrested by police for allegedly tampering with the blood sample of the juvenile who was driving the speeding Porsche which killed two software engineers. Police had claimed the blood sample of the juvenile was thrown away in the dustbin and replaced by someone else’s blood sample. The matter came to light when DNA from both the samples did not match.
