The Pune city police probing the alleged use of illegal drugs at Liquid Leisure Lounge, a pub on Fergusson College Road, detained two people in Mumbai on Tuesday, a senior officer said.
On Monday, a day after the pub was found operating way past the stipulated time limit, 14 people linked to it were arrested—eight by the Pune city police and six more by the excise department—on charges of alleged illegal operations. The police also collected samples from the pub to investigate charges of illegal drug use, alleged videos of which surfaced on June 23.
Amitesh Kumar, Commissioner of Police, said the two people detained in Mumbai were being brought to Pune for further investigation.
The Pune police have invoked the Maharashtra Prohibition Act and Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act along with Indian Penal Code section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated) against the accused in the case.
The investigation started after visuals of illegal drug use alleged to be from the pub were circulated online, prompting public outrage.
