PMPML to change colour of buses

The PMPML would get new buses in its services and there are plans to get them in a new colour, said the managing director of PMPML, Kunal Kumar.

Under criticism for its service and performance, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has decided to change the Red and Yellow colour of its buses to attract more commuters.

“There was a need to completely transform the PMPML service and create a fresh look that attracts commuters for its use. Thus, the PMPML has decided to have two colour buses which includes one exclusively for BRTS and the other for link roads,” said Kunal Kumar, municipal commissioner and acting managing director of PMPML.

He said three pairs of coloured buses have been prepared and commuters would be urged to vote on it to finalise the best pair. “The PMPML will publicise the colour being proposed for the buses and would urge citizens to vote by making a missed call. The different colour buses would also help citizens to differentiate between those on the BRTS and link routes,” said Kumar.

The advertisements being put up on the PMPML buses also affect the looks of the buses, he said. “The PMPML has been getting a revenue collection of Rs 2.6 crore by allowing advertisements on these buses while its ticket collection is the same on a day in the festive season. Thus, we are planning to stop the advertisements on the outer side of PMPML buses and would allow advertisements only on the inside.”

The PMPML would get new buses in its services and there are plans to get them in a new colour, Kumar said, adding that the old buses in the PMPML fleet would also undergo a change in colour.

There are plans to install GPS on all PMPML buses and electronic boards to display the information at bus stops. The PMPML was also working on route rationalization so as to increase the frequency on the crowded route by reducing the trips on routes outside the city area.
