A Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) bus caught fire on Friday evening after its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) connector was damaged after being hit by a speeding car at Akashwani Square. A four-year-old,one of the occupants of the car,suffered minor injuries while bus passengers were safely evacuated before the fire could spread,said police.
The incident took place around 6.30 pm when the bus was on its way from Katraj to Nigdi.
Station Officer S B Jillewar said,Due to the impact,the CNG connector of the bus was damaged and a fire broke out because of a spark. We reached the spot immediately and stopped the traffic as a precaution and brought fire under control within a few minutes. The bus has been severely damaged in the fire.
Jillewar added,A four-year-old ,who was injured in the incident,was taken to a nearby hospital. His injuries were not serious.
