For the first time in Pune,a Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) School for under-privileged,run by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) education board,has come up in Parvati area. The school – Rajiv Gandhi Academy of E-learning – at Shivdarshan Chowk will provide free e-learning facilities,mid-day meals,uniforms and stationery to the students.

Leader of opposition in PMC Aba Bagul said,“The PMC has opened many English medium schools that have received good response and are running successfully. The CBSE school is an attempt to go one step ahead and provide quality education to the under-privileged.”

The five-storey school building spread over 70,000 sq ft will have classes till X. Other than that,sports and personality development will be an integral part of the school curriculum. There are around 190 computers in the school for e-learning and education will be imparted by 22 DEd teachers,nine balwadi teachers — all trained in e-learning.

The school will give three sets of uniform,two sports uniform,school and sports shoes free of cost to all students. Other than that,the students will be given a glass of milk in the morning,breakfast at 10 am,lunch at 12.30 pm,along with books and stationery – all free of cost.

The school is well-equipped with a one computer room,31 classrooms with LCS screens,three laboratories,four staff rooms,one library,one digital library,canteen,a lift and an auditorium with 600 seating capacity.

While admissions for lower kinder garten (LKG),senior KG and Class I are over,admissions for Class II to Class VII will begin from June 6,Bagul said. He said there are plans to start UPSC coaching for these students after classes.

“We have decided to have only two posts of principal and vice-principal for which we have issued advertisements in newspapers,” Bagul said.
