Ulhasnagar model for Pimpri sought
With the Bombay High Court deadline for demolition of illegal structures closing in,citizens and activists are pressuring PCMC to prevail upon the state government to regularize structures as done in Ulhasnagar months back. The Nagrik Suraksha Haqq Samiti has taken up cudgels on behalf of citizens. Last week, its members observed a day-long hunger strike. Samiti president Manav Kamble said residents should join hands to force PCMC to convince the state to spare the structures. Corporator Maruti Bhapkar said the state should submit an Ulhasnagar-type plan to the HC. He said,When it was done in Ulhasnagar, why not in Pimpri-Chinchwad? Bhapkar said,Those who have extended their structures can be shown imposed fines. This was done in Ulhasnagar by the state government a few years back.
Raze them,MIDC,new town body told
PCMC last week directed the Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA) and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation to demolish illegal constructions on land owned by them. The PCMC has identified as many as 1.1 lakh unauthorised constructions on its own terrain while it says there were 1,323 illegal structures on MIDC land and 26,270 on land belonging to PCNTDA. Mayor Yogesh Behl said like PCMC,Pradhikaran and MIDC had powers to allot land within PCMC limits. If they too raze structures on their land,it will help us a great deal in meeting the HC deadline for demolition of illegal structures.
Govt move on MHADA flats hailed
The MHADA Housing Federation of Pimpri-Chinchwad has welcomed the state government decision to provide 2.5 FSI to tenements. Babu Nair, president of the federation, said those who own 300 to 400 square feet flats would benefit. It is positive and long overdue. Currently, thousands of residents live in pitiable conditions. They will now be able to redevelop their flats, he said. Nair said builders would also benefit and there would be lots of flats available at cheaper rates in near future. Today, even the middle class cannot afford a 1-BHK flat. MHADA flats with new FSI would certainly make dreams of thousands come true, he said.
