As per a press release issued on Friday, the accused woman is a native of Narayanganj in Bangladesh. The police said her first husband was a Bangladeshi citizen. But after he passed away in Bangladesh, she travelled to India with their son on a tourist visa, which expired on April 7, 2022.

Even after the visa expired, the woman and her minor son continued to reside in India illegally. Despite knowing that the woman hails from Bangladesh, the accused Mohammad Shaikh gave shelter to the woman, the police said.

The press release mentions that Shaikh married the woman, and she also gave birth to a boy in India, who is now one year and three months old. The police said that Shaikh was found to be residing with the woman and the two children at Talawade in Pimpri Chinchwad.

Assistant police inspector Ram Gomare, the investigation officer, said Shaikh and his wife were produced before a court on Friday. The court remanded them in police custody for three days, he added.
