A woman filed a complaint at Chinchwad police station on Tuesday afternoon that her son had been allegedly kidnapped around 5 pm on March 31.
A team led by senior police inspector Devendra Chavan of the anti-extortion cell of the crime branch launched a search for the boy.
Police teams checked videos captured by different CCTV cameras and got clues about the kidnapper. The probe revealed the accused was a person known to the boy’s family.
“Following a technical probe of phone calls, it was learnt that the accused was travelling in a train with the kidnapped boy,” stated a press release issued on Wednesday by Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Sandeep Doiphode.
Crime branch sleuths then contacted the officials of RPF, Government Railway Police (GRP), Jalgaon police and shared images of the suspect along with the CCTV footage with them.
The RPF rescued the boy from Kashi Express train and nabbed the accused Panpatil. Subsequently, a Pimpri Chinchwad police team comprising sub inspector Sunil Bhadane and havaldars Pradip Pote and Dnyaneshwar Kurhade took the accused into custody from Chalisgaon railway police station.
He was handed over to Chinchwad police station for further investigation. A first information report (FIR) was lodged against him under section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
