The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) has announced its Players Championship scheduled to be held from June 25 to June 28 at the Oxford Golf & Country Club near Pune. The tournament carries a cash prize of Rs 30 lakh.
The tournament will feature top Indian professionals such as Anirban Lahiri,Shamim Khan,Himmat Singh Rai,Digvijay Singh,Chiragh Kumar,Mukesh Kumar,defending champion Om Prakash Chouhan,Sujjan Singh,Rahil Gangjee,Harendra Gupta,Shankar Das,Manav Jaini,Rashid Khan,Abhijit Singh Chadha,Ajeetesh Sandhu and Vinod Kumar among others. The top foreign professionals include Mithun Perera (Sri Lanka),Kunal Bhasi (Australia) and Mohammed Zamal Hossain Mollah (Bangladesh). The leading golfers from Pune include Rajiv Datar,Jaideep Patwardhan,Moniuddin Malak,Saurabh Bhaduri,Sameer Shaikh,Pravin Pathare and Aditya Bhandarkar.
Phil Ryan designed picturesque Oxford Golf Course is built on 136 acres of horse-shoe shaped land surrounded by the Sahyadri Hills on the three sides. There is a height difference of 88 metres within the golf course. The large greens and white sand bunkers also give the course a distinct identity.
