Permanently Inked

There are many youngsters who can hardly resist the temptation of inking something meaningful on their body.

Getting a tattoo is a thrilling experience, but a lot of thought and research goes into it,say youngsters

There are many youngsters who can hardly resist the temptation of inking something meaningful on their body. For them, getting a tattoo is a subject of more intensive study than their college course elective! Twenty-two-year-old Aditi Kuber,an economics graduate from Fergusson College, spent enough time mulling over what tattoo to get. “I was always fascinated by stars and wanted one before I turned 20,” says Aditi whose tattoo was a birthday gift from her parents.

Karan Mehta,a third year law student at the Symbiosis Law School, got the sun tattooed on him after he recovered from an accident. “The sun denotes positivity, energy and goodwill. After my accident,my friends could not see me sad,so they financed my tattoo,” says Karan. A lot of research and thought goes into getting a tattoo. It’s a decision that stays lifelong and these youngsters weigh the pros and cons before taking the plunge.

Siddhant Rai,who has recently graduated from Symbiosis Law School, considered several suggestions before finally getting a tattoo. Rai has his lucky number ‘four’ tattooed on his leg. Eshita Puri,a commerce student at Symbiosis College of Commerce, however, does not tax her brain too much before taking that ‘painful’ decision. “Tattoos are a form of art. And I like art in any form. Be it a simple sketch or abstract body art,I am never in two minds about tattoos,” she says. Puri has a ship tattooed on her ankle but is least bothered about the reason behind it!

Many students also look at ways of making the process less painful for their pockets. Even a small three inch one can burn a big hole in one’s pocket. As a way out, youngsters usually save up for months. “When I expressed a desire to get a tattoo,my parents flatly refused. So I had to secretly save up through junior college to get one,” grins Denzin Tsewang from Manipur, who studies in Poona College. To avoid sky high rates, students also often keep an eye out for discounts and online offers. Diviyani Singh,a botany student at Fergusson College, got her tattoos done with an online discount offer. “A four-inch one cost me Rs 200,which is unbelievable,” gushes Singh.
