Pay more to travel in MSRTC buses from today

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced a 6.48 per cent hike in bus fares, which will come into effect from July 2.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced a 6.48 per cent hike in bus fares, which will come into effect from July 2.

Stating that it had been incurring losses due to recent rise in diesel prices, the MSRTC has said the State Transport Authority (STA) has approved the fare hike proposal submitted by it.

“We had implemented a hike in September 2012. Due to the increase in diesel prices, the corporation has been incurring huge losses and it has become difficult to sustain now. Thus it had become inevitable for the body to increase the bus fare. However, while increasing the fare,it was kept in mind that the hike has minimal impact on rural areas,” said an official release.

Besides the rise in fuel prices,MSRTC has attributed the fare hike also to escalating prices of tyers, spare parts and other factors. There will be a hike of Re 1 for the first 24 km and Rs 2 for a 25-30-km stretch.

Sating that state transport utility has been committed to offer excellent services,MSRTC vice-chairman and general manager Deepak Kapoor has appealed to passengers to bear with the fare hike and extend cooperation.
