Raigad, the bungalow allotted to President Pratibha Patil as a retirement home,is likely to be vacated in two months. Patil may temporarily move to a government bungalow in Delhi next month till the time the Pune house is ready.

The government had on Sunday announced that Patil had been allotted the bungalow in Pashan Road area. The bungalow is currently occupied by SP,police wireless division.

While the spokesperson of Wireless Division was not available for comment, sources confirmed the development. When this reporter visited the house,a resident said,“We have heard about the development, but nothing has been officially communicated to us. We are vacating the house in the next couple of months.”

Earlier, the President’s bungalow was being built close to the Mumbai-Pune highway near Khadki. However,it was mired in controversy as an ex-servicemen’s organisation alleged that she was being allotted a plot larger than what she was entitled to. The organisation also claimed that the President was occupying a defence plot meant for military use. The house allotted to her now is reportedly within the specifications under the President’s Emoluments and Pensions Act.
