Parents queue up from night for nursery admission forms

For around 600 parents of children aged between 2.5 to 3 years,Friday night was a testing one as they queued up outside Sevasadan English Medium School in Kothrud.

For around 600 parents of children aged between 2.5 to 3 years,Friday night was a testing one as they queued up outside Sevasadan English Medium School in Kothrud. They had queued up to procure application forms for their wards for admission to pre-primary (nursery) section. Though the school had declared that the forms would be distributed between 7.30 am and 9 am on Saturday,parents started queuing up from Friday evening. This was in view of the school announcing that it would distribute limited forms due to limited seats.

I know this is crazy,but as parents we cant help it. Once the admission is done at nursery level,there is no need to change the school till Class X, said a parent who stood in the queue outside the school from 8 pm on Friday.

Parents had brought mattresses and pillows with them. Since the school had specifically said the forms were limited,there was no choice but to be in the queue at the right time, said another parent.

Madhura Gokhale,general secretary of Pune Sevasadan Samstha that runs the school,said the school cannot do anything if parents start queuing up at night. We opened the school gate at 7.20 am and distributed around 500 forms to those who had come before 9 am. As we have only 80 seats available,we can distribute forms to a certain limit, she said.

Sevasadan is not the only school in the city where such queues are seen. On Friday night itself some parents also queued up outside Abhinav English Medium School. We had mentioned in the advertisement and also on the school notice board that there was no need to queue up from night and everybody would get the forms, said V N Chavan,executive vice-president of Adarsha Shikshan Mandali that runs Abhinav English Medium School.
