Palkhis to arrive in city today

Pune city is ready to welcome both Sant Tukaram and Sant Dnyaneshwar palkhis,which will be on their way to Pandharpur,on Monday afternoon. The city police have traffic diversion plans ready and security arrangements in place.

Pune city is ready to welcome both Sant Tukaram and Sant Dnyaneshwar palkhis,which will be on their way to Pandharpur,on Monday afternoon. The city police have traffic diversion plans ready and security arrangements in place.

The Sant Tukaram palkhi,which started from Dehu on Saturday,reached Akurdi on Sunday and has taken a halt at the Vitthal temple there. Sant Dnyaneshwar palkhi started from Alandi on Sunday afternoon. Both the palkhis will reach Wakdewadi in city late Monday. After spending the next day in the city,both the processions will resume for Pandharpur on Wednesday morning.

Both palkhis will reach Mariaai Gate at Wakdewadi on the Pune-Mumbai highway,after passing through Engineering College chowk,Shimla office chowk,Dnyaneshwar Paduka chowk,Tukaram Paduka chowk,Tilak chowk,Dulya Maruti chowk and Nana Peth. Sant Tukaram palkhi will halt at Nivdungya Vithoba temple in Nana Peth,while Sant Dnyaneshwar Palkhi will halt at Vithoba temple in Bhavani Peth.

Police said traffic on the route would remain closed till the palkhis reached the destination. They have urged establishments in the city finish work by 3 pm and clear the route for the palkhis after that.
