SOME PAYMENT methods for Pune Metro are faring way better than others. As of now, tickets can be bought via QR payment at the ticket counter or digital kiosk. Other options are WhatsApp bot, mobile app and the One Pune card.
The least popular payment method as of now is the mobile app. Between September 24 and October 14, only 6.3% payments were made via the app. Whereas, 6.5% payments were made via WhatsApp.
To save the hassle of buying a ticket every time, the One Pune prepaid card was launched on August 17. From then till October 18, 21,573 cards have been sold.
Sameer Jadhav, a student who commutes from Pune station to Sambhaji Park frequently, however, switched from One Pune card to paper ticket.
“There is a problem with the scanner sometimes, I have to tap twice before it shows green light for me to walk through. But charges for an extra ride, a paper ticket is better,” he said.
A Metro official at the Sambhaji Udyan station said, “It is the commuter’s fault if they tap the card twice. If we receive an extra amount via UPI payments, we make a note of the transaction and reimburse it”.
But the QR ticket from the counter has proven to be the most used mode with 62.1% payments. The second most preferred way of getting the ticket is via digital kiosk, with 13. 8% users. One Pune card comes third in line with 11.2% users.
Suraj Sathe, who sits at the ticket counter of Garware College station said, “There are no problems with any payment mode. It’s only network issues which affect UPI payments sometimes.”
Recently, special cards were launched for students which provide a 30% discount on the ticket amount, of which 2,220 have been sold.
