A year after Indus Creed revamped itself with a new line-up and launched an album, its members continue to explore new ideas through their music. Formed two decades ago,the band has stuck to its ground rule of only playing original music and churned a revolution in the rock music scene. Now,with a new line-up comprising Uday Benegal and Mahesh Tinaikar on guitars and vocals respectively,Zubin Balaporia on keyboard,Rushad Mistry on bass and Jai Row Kavi on drums, the Mumbai-based band is once again riding high on change.
A surge of new ideas comes along with the new members. This is the organic part of the band. Our last album,Evolve, which came out in 2012,features the new style of music brought in by Rushad and Jai, says Benegal, the bands songwriter. The newness is also brought in by the individual experiences of band members as part of their daily lives. I write songs that are influenced by the newer songs I listen to,the food I eat,the friends I make and the air that changes every day, says Benegal.
Our videos were innovative at a time when it was unusual to shoot a band in one of their regular jamming sessions. There was a time when there were dedicated channels that the youth would switch on to watch music videos, but now its all on the internet. The way of viewing videos has changed, hence we have to bring about a newness in that aspect too. We plan to shoot the band on the road, taking a journey with their music, says Benegal.
The boys recently wrapped up shoot for a series produced by Blue Frog and Fox Traveller called Sound Trek. An episode in the series features Benegal,Balaporia and Tinaikar collaborating with EDM artiste Sandunes and working on a new version of their song Take it Harder from Evolve. The end product was pretty good. Sandunes is a young musician, full of ideas and passionate about music. I have even done a piece for her upcoming album, which might release in September, says Benegal.
The band will perform some of their old songs along with new ones from their latest album in the city this Friday. We always include some of our older classics for our fans while also introducing our new material. It is all about being here in the moment with a glance back, now and then, says Benegal.
Indus Creed will perform at High Spirits,Koregaon Park,on Friday,
