City-based Jnana Prabodhini is a unique institute that is based on the unique model of development and research, which has been catering the value education towards nation building since its inception. Late Appasaheb Pendse,a social reformer and educationist laid the foundation of this institute, which is now nationally and internationally acknowledged for its activities of diverse and different kinds.

Motivating Intelligence according to Prabodhini is a universal theme cutting across economic, social, religious or ideological differences. “We know that changing our society is a Herculean task but we are resolved to bridge the thinking minds through our work in the fields of education, research, organisation and development to cater to the social entrepreneurship,” says Vivek Kulkarni, trustee and member of the consultative committee adding,“There are four guiding principles on which this institution is based- integrated activity, consultative decision making, experimental education and self reliance.”

With these principles this institute strives to make a different model in education and rural development through multiple projects. “Based on the philosophy of swami Vivekananda and Acharya Vinoba Bhave, special attention is provided to build an ‘intellectual trusteeship’. Considering student as a resource, the experimentation and validation of new technologies for the educational, cultural, social, needs of the students are taken over. For instance,at another three schools different projects such as- an agriculture based education at Harali, gurukul type of education at Nigdi and Olympic kind of training for sports at Kridakul are undertaken by the school,” adds Kulkarni.

An innovative project by the school- Sakharshala literally meaning sugar school for the betterment of children of migratory sugarcane laborers, was taken over by Government of Maharashtra and replicated at various locations across the state.

The psychology department of the school titled- Pradnya manas samshodhika has been working relentlessly for years to develop new models for aptitude tests. Not only that,Sanskrut-Sanskruti-samshodhika is another department where the postgraduate research center is affiliated to Pune University. Most uniquely the education of Priesthood is given to ‘women’ and persons of any class. “We aim to build a social commitment and spirit of patriotism among young men and women in school, college students and post-graduate students. In fact some of our students are working in Kashmir and north east states for national integration,” says Kulkarni.
