Not patients, but leaders of tomorrow: Army Chief at Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre in Pune

Speaking to reporters after his visit, Gen Dwivedi said, "I have been wanting to come to this place for long."

CHIEF OF the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi who visited the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre (PRC) at Khadki in Pune and praised the work, said that the patients at the facility do not look like patients but look like leaders of tomorrow.

Gen Dwivedi accompanied by his wife Sunita Dwivedi, president of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), paid a visit to the PRC on Tuesday. During their visit, the COAS was introduced to the state-of-the-art facilities designed to support the rehabilitation of paraplegic residents. The PRC, known for its comprehensive care, features a range of amenities aimed at enhancing the quality of life for its residents. These include a well-equipped computer lab, a modern gymnasium, vocational training workshops, and a fully equipped sports complex.

Speaking to reporters after his visit, Gen Dwivedi said, “I have been wanting to come to this place for long. Earlier I had my course mate from the Air Force who was admitted here. We used to visit this place a lot. But for quite some time I couldn’t come. From the time I became chief, my aim was that whenever I visit Pune I should visit here. I am so happy to see the exuberance, the josh, the enthusiasm among the patients here. They at no stage look like patients. They look like the leaders of tomorrow. The way they are vibrant about their achievements. Their activities like mouth painting, sports competitions are an inspiration for all of us. My best wishes to them. I am sure that in days to come, this will earn more kudos.”

A press statement issued by the Army in this regard read, “General Dwivedi was deeply impressed by the residents’ remarkable skills and resilience, particularly highlighting their breathtaking mouth paintings, which showcase both extraordinary talent and unwavering determination. He commended the residents for their creativity and strength, noting that their achievements serve as an inspiring testament to their perseverance. In his address, General Dwivedi praised the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre for its exceptional standards of care and its commitment to empowering soldiers. He emphasised the centre’s pivotal role in fostering self-reliance and providing ongoing motivation to those facing life’s toughest challenges.Sunita Dwivedi, alongside the General, expressed her admiration for the dedication and hard work exhibited by the staff and residents, underscoring the Centre’s integral role in ensuring the well-being and empowerment of soldiers.”
