The police identified the accused as Baburao Dinkar Jaybhay, 50, a resident of Ketkeshwar Colony at Kalepadal, and the victim as Abhijit. The Pune City Police has arrested a man for allegedly strangling his 27-year-old bedridden son at their Hadapsar residence on Thursday as the former had been “struggling to meet the medical expenses”, said officials.
The son, who was earlier a labourer, had been bedridden for the last six months, said police, adding that the accused was identified as Baburao Dinkar Jaybhay (50), a resident of Ketkeshwar Colony in Hadapsar’s Kalepadal, who is also a labourer by profession.
Based on a complaint filed by Baburao’s wife Sunita (45), an FIR was registered at the Hadapsar police station. Sunita mentioned in her complaint that their son — Abhijit — suffered a head injury during a mishap six months ago, and had been bedridden since then.
Baburao was upset over the increasing medical expenses of Abhijit, and so, he allegedly strangled his son around 12.30 pm on Thursday.
“We have arrested the accused based on the complaint filed by the mother of the deceased. The accused is a labourer, and his son also worked as a labourer. The mother of the deceased is a house help. It has been revealed that the accused is a liquor addict. Further investigation is underway to confirm the reason behind the crime,” said senior inspector Arvind Gokule, Hadapsar police station.
