No evidence against Hindu extremists does not mean a clean chit, says R R Patil

There is no clean chit given to Hindu organisations.

Home Minister R R Patil Saturday said since there was no evidence against the Hindu extremists in the murder of Dr Narendra Dabholkar did not mean that the police have given a clean chit to anyone. Patil was in the city for a felicitation function at Tilak Smarak Mandir organised by Sarhad.

Mediapersons asked Patil about the affidavit filed by crime branch of Pune police before the Bombay High Court on Thursday stating that there was no evidence to support the allegations of involvement of Hindu extremists in Dabholkar murder case. “So there was no need to hand over the probe to the National Investigation Agency,” he said.

Patil said he was not informed by the Pune police before filing the affidavit. “Police can file such an affidavit directly. So far there is no evidence about the involvement of Hindu extremist organisations in Dabholkar’s murder. But investigation is still on considering all angles and lack of evidence does not mean that police have given a clean chit to anybody. It is true that case has not been solved yet. We have sought help from central agencies in investigation the case,” he said.

Former journalist Ketan Tirodkar had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in HC seeking NIA probe into case, alleging that Hindu right wing activists were involved. In reply,ACP (crime) Rajendra Bhamre told the court that contention that murder of Dr Dabholkar was handiwork of Hindu extremist groups is based only on presumptions or petitioner’s own imagination, which is not supported by any factual evidence.

Sunil Ghanwat of Hindu Janjagruti Samiti said,“Hindu organisations were never involved in Dabhokar murder. But,even the ministers made such statements about involvement of Hindu organisations without any evidence.” Dr Shyam Manav, founder of ABANS said,“The media has misinterpretated of the affidavit filed by the Pune police.
