Addressing the cadets,Soni said,”For cadets of the 118th course,it is a special occasion. You graduate after a most strenuous three-year curriculum. You have reasons to be proud and confident in your abilities and in the traditions of leadership you have imbibed here.” Congratulating the foreign cadets,of Afghanistan and Tajikistan, Soni said,”Your alma mater will always fondly remember you and will proudly follow your growth in the service to your respective countries,” he said.

The commandant stressed on the need for cadets to gain knowledge of advanced technologies and dwelt on the challenges posed by advanced technologies. He said the cadets should prepare for changing environments as their responsibilities will include management of strategic assets, weaponisation of space or countering threats of cyber warfare. Soni said the cadets should show impeccable integrity in the long years of service that lie ahead. The time will come when “You must stand alone in making a difficult choice,” he said.

“These would be moments when your career or even life could be at risk. To make a correct decision you must have the discipline to follow the value system imbibed in this Academy. These qualities do not suddenly emerge but are rooted in the small decisions you make as you go along in your service. Develop qualities that allow you to resist temptations. You must ensure that your moral courage serves the greater good: that you always do what is best for the nation and our highest values,” said the commandant.

Urging the cadets to reject careerism,Sonia said,”I urge you be principled leaders of integrity who take inspirations from Capt Manoj Pandey under whose name you take your first steps as graduates. The ethos of training at the Academy lies in jointness. As you bid farewell to your course-mates from other services, you must never forget the preceding three years and the bon-homie you shared — this must translate into comradeship in the battle field to give enemy a fitting response in times of crisis,” he said.
