Almost five months after his death during training at the National Defence Academy (NDA),cadet Ajitesh Goel’s father has written to the Army Chief,Defence Secretary and Defence Minister that a compensation of Rs 50 lakh be offered to him.

Ajitesh’s father added that no compensation can ever make up for the loss of his son.

Goel, who owns a real estate business in Kashipur in Uttarakhand also demanded that he be updated regarding the internal Court of Inquiry (CoI) which the NDA had supposedly ordered within “days after his son’s death.”

In the letter,Goel has written,“No insurance or compensation can make up for the loss of our beloved son. I have to carry on against all odds. The family support has been taken away by destiny. I demand a compensation of Rs 50 lakh from the concerned authorities.”

The letter reads,“Further, during subsequent conversations with NDA authorities days after my son’s tragic demise,we were told by the NDA officials that an internal inquiry has been constituted to look into what went wrong in causing my son’s death. I thus request you to kindly update us with the said internal inquiry.”

Ajitesh,a fourth term cadet of the NDA,died February 2 during night navigation exercise. Penning down the allegations he made subsequent to the death of his son,Goel,in his letter, has said,“Our son could have been saved had the NDA authorities acted sincerely and promptly when he fainted twice earlier. Besides, there are numerous other factors which,we,his family members, believe need to be cross-checked and investigated.” The locus-standi of Goel’s demands for increased compensation is the risk certificate he may have signed before his son joined the NDA wherein no compensation can be claimed from the GoI in case of death during training.
