After NCP (SP) Maharashtra unit president Jayant Patil said he would head the party only for the next four months, MP Supriya Sule said on Tuesday it throws light on the democracy that exists in the party.
At the 25th Foundation Day celebration of the Nationalist Congress Party in Ahmednagar on Monday, Patil said, “I am the party’s president. Many of you have counted the days for which I will remain the president. Don’t count the remaining four months of my tenure… I will do my work properly as the party president. Our party belongs to lakhs of our workers. It does not belong to any particular person”.
Patil said if he did not behave properly, the people of this country would be affected. ”Wait only for four months. After November, I will myself say goodbye,” he added.
Patil said if there are any complaints against him, then party leaders should not go public about them. ”They should tell Sharad Pawar Saheb if they have any complaints against me,” he said.
While speaking to reporters in Pune on Tuesday, NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) Baramati lawmaker Supriya Sule said, “It shows the internal democracy of our party”.
NCP sources said Sule is likely to take over from Patil. “Ajit Pawar had left the party alleging that Sharad Pawar wanted to hand over the reins to Sule. Devendra Fadnavis and the BJP have also been raking up the issue of the ‘putra prem’ of Sharad Pawar. In such a scenario, it looks like Sule will take over the party reins,” said an NCP (S-P) leader.
