Even as the Copenhagen summit on climate change is on,locally,NCP members have decided to take a pledge to combat global warming on NCP president Sharad Pawar’s birthday on December 12.

All NCP leaders,in the district and state, will take a pledge to follow the norms and not violate air, water and sound pollution. NCP leader Jaidev Gaikwad said that this year instead of the usual programmes of felicitation, all the members will take the pledge for the betterment of the city, state and country at large.

From tree plantation to even releasing booklets on how to keep the environment clean will be taken up by the leaders,he said. However ,even as the both the corporations, and zilla Parishad are going in for the pledge, many senior leaders are not aware of the concept. “We are anyway doing our bit for the environment. This is nothing new,’’ said a senior leader.

Taking this into consideration, awareness is being spread among NCP leaders regarding this issue. “Education of this issue is very important. Pollution of air, water and sound has increased beyond proportions. We as citizens should unite against this pollution,’’ said another NCP leader.
