The magistrate court on Tuesday remanded two sons of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)corporator Baburao Chandere and their two aides,who had been arrested for allegedly attempting to murder a lawyer following a past dispute last week,in police custody till March 5.
The suspects identified as Samir Baburao Chandere (25), Kiran Baburao Chandere (23),both residents of Virbhadra Nagar society on Baner Road,Ganesh Bajirao Ingawale (23) and Manoj Ingawale (23),both residents of Bhugaon in Mulshi,were produced before Judicial magistrate (first class) K M Pingle.
Lawyer Ashish Arjun Tamhane (26),a resident of Baner,had lodged an offence at Chatushringi police station.
On March 26,when the complainant was going on his bike he was intercepted by another bike that dashed him near Mauli petrol pump in Baner around 6.15 pm. Later,the suspects reached the spot in a car and allegedly assaulted the complainant with weapons.
The complainant received severe injuries and was admitted to a hospital. Police booked the suspects under Sections 143,147,149,307,504,506 of Indian Penal Code.
Police told the court that custodial interrogation of the suspects was required to understand the motive behind the assault and to recover the vehicles and weapons used in the crime. Police said they wanted to recover the clothes that the suspects were wearing during the crime and match the stains with their blood samples accordingly to gather evidence.
Police sought 14-day police custody of the suspects but the court granted only three days.
Rs 22 lakh stolen from Shirur ATM
Unidentified individuals robbed Rs 22 lakh from an ATM in Shirur on the intervening night of April1 and 2. Shirur police said the theft was reported from the State Bank of India ATM at Yash Square in Ranjangaon Industrial Estate. The thieves broke the ATM with an iron rod and fled with Rs 22.6 lakh. The security guard of the ATM Manoj Rajaram Chavan has registered a complaint.
