NCERT officials to train Balbharati members on textbook development at Pune workshop
The main objective of the workshop in Pune is to educate members of Maharashtra’s school textbook preparation body on topics like National Education Policy 2020 and the Indian knowledge system, according to Balbharati.

Officials of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will train members of the Board of Studies of Balbharati, or the Maharashtra State Bureau of Textbook Production and Curriculum Research, at a two-day workshop starting on Friday in Pune.
Experts such as Professor Manjul Bhargava (Princeton University, US), Anurag Behar (CEO, Azim Premji Foundation), Gajanan Londhe (Head, Programme Office, National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee), Professor Indrani Bhaduri (CEO and Head of PARAKH), and Dr Madhushree Savji will train over 500 members during the workshop titled “Textbook Writing – Orientation Session” on Friday and Saturday, Balbharati said in a statement.
Balbharati said it is preparing new textbooks inspired by NCERT textbooks.
Anuradha Oak, Director of Balbharati, said in the statement, “We have already published textbooks for Class 1 in 2025. Currently, the textbooks for Classes 2, 3, 4, and 6 are being developed to be published in 2026-2027. In order to ensure that the textbooks of all subjects are of high quality and of good quality and to facilitate the textbook writing process for all subject committee members, Balbharati has organised this two-day awareness session at the Boxing Hall of Shri Shivchhatrapati Krida Sankul, Balewadi, Pune.
The main objective of this inaugural session is to educate on topics like National Education Policy 2020, the Indian knowledge system, and Panchkosh, as well as to build the capacity of the subject committee members.”
Balbharati is implementing a new curriculum for various classes in a phased manner. New textbooks have been introduced for Class 1 in this academic year, while in 2026-27, new books will be introduced for Classes 2, 3, 4, and 6. In 2027-28, new textbooks will be introduced for Classes 5, 7, 9, and 11. In 2028-29, new textbooks will be introduced for Classes 8, 10, and 12.
School Education Minister Dada Bhuse will inaugurate the workshop.
Pankaj Bhoyar, Minister of State, School Education Department; Ranjit Singh Deol, Principal Secretary, School Education; Sachindra Pratap Singh, Commissioner of Education; Rahul Rekhawar, Director, State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT); Sharad Gosavi, Director, Primary Education; Mahesh Palkar, Director of Education; Secondary; and Krishnakumar Patil, Director of the scheme, among other officials, will also attend the inauguration.
