MPL: Pratapgad Warriors defeat Devgiri Emperors

The Pratapgad Warriors,runners-up in the first edition of the MPL,defeated Devgiri Emperors by seven wickets at the Deccan Gymkhana Ground here on Tuesday.

The Emperors elected to bat first after winning the toss,and managed to post a decent score of 147/6 in 20 overs. Amit Patil top scored with a run-a-ball 33,while Kunal Marathe chipped in at the end with an unbeaten 24 off just 12 balls. For the warriors,Samad Fallah took three wickets while Sunil Yadav took two.

Chasing 148 for victory,Pratapgad rode on Swapnil Gugales brilliant half-century to chase the target down with three balls to spare.

Gugale smashed an unbeaten 68 runs off just 55 balls,studded with six fours and a huge six,to see the Warriors through.

He was supported by Satyajit Satbhai,who scored 35 off 25 balls in a 61-run partnership between the two batsmen.

Gugale won a deserving Man-of-the-Match award for his performance, said a press note.

In the second match of the day played at the Poona Club saw the defending champions the Raigad Royals take on the Panhala Panthers,who had opened their campaign with a victory yesterday.

Electing to field,the Royals produced a disciplined bowling attack to restrict Panhala to just 117 all out in 20 overs. Sandeep Adole,Sangram Atitkar and Nikhil Paradkar each bagged two wickets each for the Raigad team.

Atitkar delivered with the bat as well,scoring a measured 48 off 56 balls. He was involved in a 79-run partnership for the third wicket with Rohan Bhosale,who scored 35 off 37 balls to help Raigad to 120/4 in 19.2 overs as they wrapped up a six-wicket victory.
