Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast over major geographical areas of the country all through this week, as multiple favourable weather systems active over various parts will keep the rainfall activity persisting, the India Meteorological Department said on Monday.
On Monday, the southwest monsoon was active and its trough ran along Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh (both in Rajasthan), Raisen, Mandla (both in Madhya Pradesh) Raipur (Chhattisgarh) and Kalingapatanam (Andhra Pradesh), which was much to the south of its normal position.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra and Gujarat will receive heavy rain. A trough running from Gujarat and north Kerala has kept the monsoon active along the west coast for the past few days. There is no respite from rain for Assam, where flooding in the past few days has killed over 50 people. Heavy rain is predicted also over Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till Friday. The eastern states of Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha, too, will receive similar-intensity rain this week.
