Police have identified the victim as Samir Roychoudhary (77), resident of the Sayali Garden society in Aundh. He had retired from a private service.
Police said Samir was out for a morning walk. Around 5.15 am, a few youngsters intercepted him near the tennis court in Parihar chowk. They allegedly demanded money from him. When he refused, they allegedly attacked him, striking him on the head with a hard object, severely injuring him. He became unconscious and collapsed on the spot. A local newspaper vendor informed his family members. He was then sent to private hospital. His condition was extremely critical, said a senior police officer.

Police said a few youngsters on a two wheeler intercepted Shetty near Purvi Mobile shop and demanded money from him. They also tried to snatch money from his pocket. One of them attacked Shetty with an iron rod, but he resisted and managed to flee from the spot. However, Shetty’s hand was injured in the incident.
The assailants also attacked Ramsobitkumar Mandal (39) with an iron rod for money. Mandal was injured and admitted to a hospital for treatment. Mangal works as a security guard at a construction site in Parihar chowk area, police said.

Shreyas Shetty lodged the first information report (FIR) in the case at the Chaturshringi police station under sections 397, 307, 341 of the Indian Penal Code.
Police said the assailants wanted money, so they targeted people on the streets near Parihar Chowk. They attacked at least three persons and then escaped from the spot on a two wheeler and in an auto rickshaw.
Additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil said the assailants were identified and four of them, all minors, were detained and further probe was on.
