Metro rail: Centre asks PMC,PCMC to submit project report

Pardeshi added that the report would to be submitted in two weeks and the local civic bodies would do the needful.

The union government on Thursday directed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to submit a project report of the Pune metro rail that includes the feeder service plan that will help commuters to reach the metro stations.

The state government issued a notification to form a special purpose vehicle,Pune Mahanagar Metro Rail Corporation,to implement the Metro rail project in the city,while giving an in-principle approval to the proposed extension of the route from Swargate to Katraj and Pimpri to Nigdi.

At a meeting of all the civic bodies held in Delhi to implement the Metro rail project,Union government officials discussed the progress of the administrative process of the Pune metro rail. “The Union government has directed us to submit a revised project report. It has asked us to include the feeder service plan that enables bus service,auto facility for citizens to reach the stations,parking facility at stations and infrastructure for physically-challenged people to use the Metro,” said PCMC commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi.

He added that the report would to be submitted in two weeks and the local civic bodies would do the needful.

The state government has been working on the administrative process as it issued notification for the formation of the special purpose vehicle to implement the Metro rail. Two routes from Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi of 16.5 km and 14.92 km,respectively,were approved by the state cabinet. “However,a notification for its execution was awaited. In the notification,the state government gave an in-principle approval to additional 15 km of metro rail route that comprises Swargate to Katraj and Pimpri to Nigdi,” a civic body official said.
