Pune city police have arrested two persons with possession of Mephedrone and a country-made pistol, which they are suspected to have procured to eliminate a rival.
Police have identified the accused persons as Bobby Bhagwat Survase (28) of Lakshmi Nagar in Yerwada and Tosif alias Laddu Khan (32) of Kasba Peth.
While on a night patrol, teams of anti-narcotics cell and anti-extortion cell of the crime branch, led by inspectors Vijay Kumbhar and Sudarshan Gaikwad, nabbed the two accused in Shukrawar Peth, in the early hours of Friday.
During the search, cops recovered 74 grams of Mephedrone estimated at Rs 14.6 lakh, a country-made pistol, a magazine, and two live cartridges.
An FIR was lodged against them at the Faraskhana police station. Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Nikhil Pingale said that prima-facie, it is suspected that the accused procured the pistol to attack their rival.
Pune police have launched a probe to know from where the accused sourced the pistol and Mephedrone.
Police suspect the accused were planning to sell the Mephedrone to customers in the city.
Assistant police inspector Nitinkumar Naik is investigating the case.
