The Pimpri Chinchwad police have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the Suresh Bishnoi gang for robbing a 76-year-old business at gunpoint at his bungalow in Nigdi Pradhikaran.

The victim, Chandrabhan Chhoteram Agarwal (76), had lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at Nigdi police station on July 20, 2024.

Based on Agarwal’s complaint, police had booked five robbers under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 310(2), 127(2) and sections of the Indian Arms Act.

During investigation, the police initially arrested notorious criminal Suresh Laduram Bishnoi alias Suresh Dhaka (29) and his aide Mahipal Ramlal Bishnoi (19), both hailing from Rajasthan, in this case. Police further arrested one more accused Subhash Mohanlal Bishnoi (30) of Haryana.

As stated in the FIR, Agarwal is the owner of R R Industries in Chinchwad MIDC. His son runs a construction company. On the evening of July 20, Agarwal’s wife went to his son’s house in Aundh.

Then, around 8.55 pm, when Agarwal was home watching TV, two robbers stormed into his bungalow while three more, including a woman, stood at the door.

The robbers threatened him at gunpoint and demanded he show them the safe with cash and gold. When he replied that there was no safe in his house, the robbers tied his hands and legs and gagged him as they started to rummage through the house. The robbers looted gold and silver ornaments, wrist watches and cash, all worth Rs 6.15 lakh and escaped from the spot around 10.30 pm.

Police officials said that one of the neighbours saw the robbers leaving the house and felt their movements were suspicious and informed the police. A team from the police station arrived at the scene and released Agarwal. It also came to light that the robbers had tied and locked the family of the domestic help in the outhouse.

Cops launched a probe and scanned over 200 CCTV cameras in the area for initial clues. Cops got information about the car used by the robbers. The police team then traced the route taken by the car for 1,200 kms to Jaipur in Rajasthan.

On July 24, the police team arrested Suresh Dhaka alias Suresh Bishnoi, a notorious criminal with 21 prior cases including attempted murder and armed robberies from Rajasthan and Gujarat. After arresting him in Shyamnagar in Jaipur, the police recovered jewellery of the victim’s wife, her Aadhar card, the victim’s wallet along with four walkie talkie sets.

Police said the robbers used walkie talkies between themselves to avoid getting detected through the use of cell phones. So, when the probe was launched, cops found an unusual absence of cell phone activity from the crime location.

A press release issued on Thursday stated that Suresh, Manipal and Subhash Bishnoi were found to have committed nine serious offences. As per the directives of Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad police, MCOCA was invoked against the gang. A senior police officer said that Suresh Kumar Bishnoi’s gang has no connection with the high profile gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Shivaji Pawar said apart from the Suresh Bishnoi gang, MCOCA has also been invoked against the gangs led by dreaded criminals Abhishek Nimbalkar, Avinash Avad and Arman Nanavat, who committed serious offences in Pimpri Chinchwad.
