Lack of managers with international experience, high costs of advanced packaging techniques, paucity of trained labourers and insufficient fund allocation by companies for sales promotion were identified at the workshop organised jointly by the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce,Industries,Agriculture (MCCIA) and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) with the APEX Cluster Development Services on Friday. Various aspects of export and international trade involving the processed food sector were discussed. The two day workshop began on Friday and was attended by about 60 exporters, manufacturers of processed foods and students of international business. RG Vaidya from Synergy Research, said,It is very important to do your homework about your client as the work culture differs from one country to another. While in Japan clients take a lot of time to completely trust people, once you earn their trust, you are in for a long term business relations. Quite contrary to this is China where people go for very competitive and predatory pricing systems that lead to only short term gains. He advised exporters to rather go for product differentiation and specialisation to create a specialised clientele rather than setting out to capture an entire market.
