The Pimpri Chinchwad police have launched a search for the suspect based on various leads available in the case. (Representational) The Pimpri Chinchwad police have launched a probe after a married woman was allegedly raped under the pretext of marriage by a man she met through Instagram.
The woman also alleged that the man took over Rs 5 lakh and gold from her citing various reasons and threatened to send her nude photos to her kin. The 32-year-old woman filed a First Information Report (FIR) on Thursday and told the police that the events unfolded between May 2021 to March 2023.
According to the complaint, the woman came in touch with a man in May 2021 who identified himself as a resident of Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. The duo started talking with each other on a daily basis and the two even met in person, said the police. Soon, the man promised to get married to the complainant.
The investigating officer said, “The complainant has said in her FIR that the suspect took a total of Rs 5.25 lakh and 50 grams of gold ornaments on various pretexts. He also raped her multiple times under the false promise of marriage and also clicked nude photos of her. He later threatened to send those photos to her husband and family members. The woman approached the police recently after the man started harassing her on phone and online.”
“We have launched a search for the suspect based on various leads available in the case,” the officer added.
