Marketyard to be closed on Nov 1, MSRTC service suspended at some depots

Traders and commission agents operating in Gultekdi Marketyard have decided to suspend trade on November 1 to support the ongoing agitation for Maratha reservation. The workers union of the market has also extended their support to the cause and has called for a day’s bandh on the same day.

On Monday, the association of traders and commission agents at the Marketyard issued a message stating their decision to support the ongoing fast by Manoj Jarange Patil in Jalna. Accordingly, trade at the Marketyard will remain suspended on November 1. Farmers have been asked not to bring their produce to the market on Wednesday. The Marketyard workers union have also decided to extend their support to this decision. Traders and commission agents of the market will also participatw in a cyclic fast at Gate No 1 of the market

The protest had also seen Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) suspending operations in some of their depots. As per Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) officials, its 30 depots have shut operations owing to ongoing protests.

All of these depots are in Marathwada districts. “On Monday, of 250 depots in the state, 220 were operational and 30 had suspended operations. We are keeping a close watch and taking decisions after assessing local situation, ” said Abhijeet Bhosale, Public Relations Officer, MSRTC. The decision to suspend operations was taken after consultation with the police.

The ongoing Maratha agitation has seen sporadic incidents of violence with homes of MLAs in Beed being targeted. Protesters have stopped the entry of political leaders into villages with pictures of many political leaders being smeared with black ink. Jarange Patil is currently on a fast to demand reservation for Marathas.
