NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar. (Express file photo by Ganesh Shirsekar)Protesters rom the Maratha community Sunday blocked the convoy of NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar in Kurduvadi in Solapur district where he was going to address a rally.
Later, when Pawar was addressing the rally in Barshi town of the district, a group of protesters raised slogans and waved back flags. The protesters were detained by the police.
According to party sources, Pawar’s convoy was stopped near Kuruduvadi Ambad in Madha taluka of Solapur district by agitators who asked the NCP (SP) chief to clarify his stand on Maratha reservation.
To this, Pawar said he had been supporting Maratha reservation right from the beginning.
However, the agitators asked him why he does not publicly declare this stand. The agitators said some of his partymen were holding agitations for Maratha reservation and asked him do they belong to his party or are they quota agitators.
When Pawar was delivering his speech at the farmers rally in Barshi, some Maratha agitators raised slogans supporting the reservation and the community. The police later detained them.
