Man who hung his dog by rope killing it & shared photo on WhatsApp arrested

The Paud police have arrested the man who allegedly hung his pet dog by a rope killing it in Pirangut on Monday and then shared the photos with a social worker on WhatsApp. After the photos went viral, citizens and activists demanded justice and action against the accused, who has been arrested.

An FIR was lodged against the accused on Tuesday night at Paud police station. The FIR was filed by Padmini Peter Stump (66) of Mission Possible Foundation, Pune, which works to take care of sick and injured animals, including dogs, cats, cows and buffaloes, as well as providing clinics and food for them since 2006.

Stump stated in the FIR, “When I was working in the organisation at 11:45 am, a woman animal caretaker got a call from Omkar Vinayak Jagtap from Pirangut. He informed me that he was going to kill the dog.” Stump said after the call, the organisation got in touch with Jagtap and assured that they would send an ambulance immediately.

“But then 10 minutes later, on the WhatsApp of the caretaker, Jagtap sent a photo of the dog hanging by a rope,” Stump stated.

Senior police inspector Santosh Girigosavi, in charge of Paud police station, said, “We have arrested the accused and investigation is on. The accused told us that the dog was causing trouble. He said he had called an organisation for help, who said they would take the dog with them, but as they didn’t come for two days, he killed the dog.”

The caretaker also alleged that Japtap sent a video of a woman beating the dog with a stick, along with text informing her to not send an ambulance as he had already killed the dog, police said.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray in a tweet demanded swift action by the police.
