LGBT pride march on Nov 24

Samapathik Trust will conduct an LGBT pride march on November 24.

For the third consecutive year,Samapathik Trust will conduct an LGBT pride march on November 24 with a focus on acceptance and rights for lesbians,gays,bisexuals,tritiyapanthis,hijaras and intersex communities.

Bindhmadhav Khire,president,Samapathik Trust said they wanted to highlight the contributions made by lesbians,bisexuals and transgender towards their community. Sonal Giani,who is a bisexual,will be the grand marshall of the march.

Samapathik Trust is a sexual health organisation which has been working for the health and rights issues of gays and lesbians for the past 11 years. “Currently,we are working with 1,600 men who have sex with men/gays,bisexuals,transgenders,hijaras in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad,“ said Khire.

The trust,which manages two HIV prevention projects funded by Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society and the project Pehchan which works on advocacy issues of LGBT community,will be joined by Umang which works for LGBT community in Mumbai. Shruta,a member of Umang group,said their representatives will also participate in the march.

The march will begin at 11 am on November 24 from Pune Sarvajanik Sabha near Rameshwar market and make its way through Dani Ali,near Vijay Maruti Chowk,Laxmi Road,Bajirao Road,Shanivarwada,Shivaji Road ,Shrinath Theatre,Shukruwar Peth Police Chowky,and back to Rameshwar market.
