The India Fiesta Latina 2012 will bring together top salsa performers and Latin DJs from around the world under one roof
The three days are going to be about eating, drinking, sleeping dance, declares Sunil Chopra. He,along with his dance partner Shalu, and friend Neeraj Maskara, are the main organisers behind the first ‘India Fiesta Latina (IFL) 2012′. The event,a salsa congress to be held at Jaypee Greens,Greater Noida, from April 13-16,will bring together a tour de force group of national and international salsa artistes under one roof. The three-day programme claims to be the biggest salsa party this side of the globe, and will feature over 50 workshops on dance, close to 50 performances and party nights that will resonate with the beats some of the top Latin DJs of the world. It is the first time such a congress is being organised in India. The participants will get to experience the different ways of dancing salsa, adds Chopra.

The organisers’ biggest inspiration towards kick starting this event were the highly popular salsa congresses that are held in Berlin,Amsterdam and Rio de Janeiro. These congresses usually are like conventions that help update students on the new styles and new happenings as regards to salsa. It also gives us a chance to meet and dance with renowned artistes,a chance we may not get otherwise, says Soonruta Kothadia, from Pune-based Danza De La Liga. The dance institute will be one of the 30 such schools from across the country to send representatives to the IFL. Supporting the learning exchange at the event will be the informal parties where participants can shake a leg to salsa and bachata, and where the dancers are free to ask for a dance with anyone. One of the aims of this event, apart from the networking,is to provide budding artists from the country a chance of international exposure, says Chopra.
The event’s expected participation is over 1,000,including performers, top 20 dancer instructors from more than 30 countries from Europe,South-East Asia,Middle East and Latin America, and a few top DJs. Joining this delegation will be Valentin Behringer,a photographer who specialises in capturing the fluid grace of salsa events and performances. Workshops that will stretch the three days will focus on salsa as well as other dance forms from beginner to advanced level groups. This will be followed by salsa socials every night, with parties starting at 11:30 pm and staying up till 3 am.
