Kerala cops get IED defusion lessons from CRPF,set a trend

A training module specially designed for the Kerala Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) concluded at the CRPF Institute of IED Management in Talegaon on Saturday.

After the two-week capsule course in counter-IED (Improvised Explosive Device) tactics,a member of Kerala BDDS Squad said,The practical experience we got during the training programme was valuable. We have a responsibility of taking forward the knowhow we got here.

A team of 32 personnel from the Kerala Police BDDS including six sub-inspectors,two assistant sub-inspectors,15 head-constables and nine constables were trained in neutralisation and disposal of IEDs and given tips on post-blast investigations.

The Institute of IED Management was set up in February this year.

Principal,CRPF Institute of IED Management,Commandant Jamal Khan said,Batches of CRPF personnel regularly undergo basic and advanced training at the institute. This was the first time a specially designed course as per requirement of Kerala Police was conducted here. Kerala Police had got in touch with CRPF Director General K Vijay Kumar. Similar training programmes for various state police BDDS squads will be organised in the coming days. Our experience with the Kerala Police suggests that these police teams need more practical training in IED management.
