(Express Photo)THE MADH village in Junnar taluka woke up on Monday to the shocking news of the unfortunate death of farmer Ganesh Maskare (30), his wife Komal (25) and their children Kavya (6) and Harshad (4) in an accident on the Ahmednagar-Kalyan highway.
Residents of the village said besides being a farmer, Maskare was also a vegetable vendor and an avid wrestler.
“Wrestling was in their genes. Ganesh, who was known as Omkar to his near and dear ones, continued the tradition of wrestling, which he got from his father Anil and his grandfather Baburao. He had won many prizes in local competitions. He used to dedicate time for his passion, despite having a tough schedule. He used to run the vegetable stall in Tokawade area in Thane district,” said Mahendra Sadakal, former Sarpach of Madh village, located around 120km from Pune.
“On Sunday, Ganesh, Komal, Kavya, Harshad and Ganesh’s mother Gangubai had gone to Pimpalwandi village near Narayangaon to attend the wedding of Komal’s cousin. They were accompanied by Amol Mukunda Thoke (25), who worked for Maskare’s vegetable shop. In Narayangaon, Ganesh stocked up his pickup truck with vegetables for sale the next day. On the way back, they dropped Gangubai at Aalephata at a relative’s house. The four family members and Thoke were on their way back home when the accident took place,” said Sadakal.
A police officer from Otur police station said, “The family has a farm next to the village but they focussed mainly on the sale of vegetables. We have come to know that Ganesh used to stock up his pick-up truck in Narayangaon market and take it to the stall in Tokawade. Ganesh is survived by his parents Anil (53) and Gangubai (49), his grandparents and his sister, who is now married.”
Sadakal added, “We have been told that the last time Ganesh had contact with his family is when he dropped his mother at their relative’s place at Aalephata.”
