Pune city police have arrested a man from Jharkhand in connection with the theft of 266 iPhones worth Rs 2 crore from a godown on the Lonikand–Kesnand road.
The police identified the accused as Salim alias Asarul Ismail Fazal Shaikh, 35, and said the iPhones were stolen on July 17.
According to a statement issued by the police, an investigation revealed the involvement of a gang from Jharkhand’s Sahibganj in the crime, following which a police team launched a search for the accused. Two policemen went to Sahibganj and nabbed Shaikh on August 24.
The police said he committed the theft with the help of four others. After stealing the iPhones, they allegedly sold the stock in the black market with the help of an agent from West Bengal.
The first information report (FIR) was lodged at Lonikand police station under sections 454, 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code.
