Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil on Monday flayed NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar and also targeted the Congress over the matter of reservation.

Jarange alleged that Sharad Pawar had in 1994 diverted the Maratha community’s rightful 16 per cent quota to the Other Backward Classes.

“In 1994, Sharad Pawar had deprived Marathas their rightful due of the reservation. We should have received the quota in 1994 itself had it not been for Sharad Pawar who gave it to the OBCs. The OBC community has however not acknowledged his favour,” Jarange told reporters in Jalna on Monday. His attack on Pawar is said to be the first of its kind on the NCP (SP) chief in the last two years.

The activist also targeted the Congress. “The morcha that is being organised by OBCs is actually Congress morcha… Who built the Congress in Maharashtra? Didn’t the Marathas build the Congress? Marathas elected several MPs of Congress. Marathas brought Congress to power. Now Congress is talking about cancelling the GR in favour of quota for Marathas. I will now request Marathas not to support such parties,” he said.
