IAF gifts MiG-21 fighter jet to Pune’s Military Institute of Technology for training purposes
The MiG-21 fighter jet that has been gifted to the Military Institute of Technology is a Total Technical Life Expired aircraft, which means it has completed its design life in terms of the operational hours.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has gifted a MiG-21 fighter aircraft to the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT) for training purposes which will help enhance practical understanding of various features of the aircraft, defence officials in Pune said on Tuesday.
The MiG-21 is the first supersonic fighter in service of the IAF and was inducted in 1963. It has participated in all major conflicts since then. The MiG-21, which has undergone service upgrades during its lifetime, is slowly being phased out of the IAF and is being replaced by other fighter jets.

Officials said that the MiG-21 fighter jet that has been gifted to the MILIT is a Total Technical Life Expired (TTLE) aircraft, which means it has completed its design life in terms of the operational hours.
A tweet from the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Defence, said, “Indian Air Force has gifted one TTLE MiG-21 aircraft to MILIT for training purposes. The aircraft has been assembled with the support of units from Western Air Command, Repair and Salvage Unit and MILIT staff. MILIT expresses its sincere gratitude to IAF for this gesture. The TTLE aircraft will enhance the practical understanding of aerodynamic concepts & weapon loading characteristics of supersonic fighter ac by student officers undergoing training at MILIT.”
The MILIT, which is located at Girinagar in Pune, is a premier tri-services technology training institute of the Armed Forces.
Among various courses conducted at the MILIT are Technical Staff Officers Course (TSOC), Naval Technical Staff Course (NTSC) and Defence Services Technical Staff Course (DSTSC).
