The call was received on Thursday morning around 7 am when Modi was slated to visit Pune. The visit was, however, cancelled owing to forecast of very heavy rains in the city.
Officers from Pimpri Chinchwad police said around 7 am, a call on emergency response number 112 was routed to their control room. “The caller said there was a threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s life. The caller insisted that his call be connected to Mantralaya in Mumbai. Initial analysis revealed that the call had originated from Thergaon area. A team was dispatched and a 24-year-old man was detained from a bus stop in the area,” said a police officer.
“In the initial questioning, the man said Artificial Intelligence-based analysis of information available on the internet showed him that there was a threat to Modi’s life. It soon became clear that the man was emotionally disturbed. We got to know that he is a software engineer and hails from Udgir in Latur district. He had been working for an IT firm in Pune where he was recently served a termination notice. We have informed the family of the man. The course of action against him will be decided based on further probe,” the officer added.
