Members of mountaineering club,Giripremi,will set off for their Everest Expedition 2012 in March,”to unfurl the Tricolor on the top of the world”. In order to boost the team’s morale and gain support from Puneites,an event was organised at Krishnasundar lawns,Pune,by Giripremi which saw the launch of a promotional song by classical singer Rahul Deshpande and the publication of a souvenir by Anand Jog. Deshpande said,”Puneites will continue with their support for the team. The Everest 2012 Expedition team will scale Mount Everest and come back as winners. I wish them the best of luck.”

Colourful Generation

Sunday morning began on a colourful note for children as they sat in the sprawling lawns of Sarasbaug Park and put their creative ideas on paper. A drawing competition was organised by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Pune in collaboration with Maharashtra PUC Centres Association as part of the 23 rd Road Safety Campaign 2012. Senior artist Mangesh Tendulkar inaugurated the event and also did some paintings along with the children. More than 1000 students from several city schools participated and all were given certificates. The competition started at 9.30am and concluded around 12 noon. The children were provided with drawing paper and were given five different topics: Traffic a problem – solutions,Vehicle pollution problem – solution,Accident I witnessed,Mobile use call to accident and Road safety – accident,pollution and helmet. Students were divided into four different groups – Stds I – V,VI – X,open group and physically challenged group. The winners from each group will receive cash awards at the prize distribution ceremony which will be held soon. “It is really pleasure to watch such youthful energy. They should be given proper training and guidance for their hobbies and skills from the school,” said Tendulkar. Students even said a pledge about road safety and traffic rules. Around 100 slogan boards were displayed with messages like: ‘Accident brings tears,Safety brings cheer’,and so on.
