Rally Around

The Diabetic Association of India – Pune branch will conduct a diabetes awareness rally on November 17 at Tilak Smarak Mandir. “The rally will be flagged off by actor Mohan Agashe,” said Ramesh Godbole,Secretary,Diabetic Association of India – Pune branch.

Solutions in Sight

Speaking at the inauguration of World Optometry,Ophthalmic Optics and Contact Lens Congress on Saturday,K Sankaranarayanan,Governor of Maharashtra,said that India is home to the maximum number of blind persons and those with low vision. He cautioned that this number is set to increase because of increased population,increase in life expectancy,age-related problems and rising incidence of diabetes. He called for training more optometrists and creating more vision centres in villages and towns to attend to problems relating to low vision,contact lenses and vision therapies. He also called

for reviving efforts to promote eye donation. The congress was hosted by the Indian Academy of Ophthalmology.
