Dr KB Grant Honoured
The Padmabhushan honour to Late Dr K B Grant was awarded by the President of India,Pratibha Patil,at Rashtrapati Bhavan,in New Delhi on April 1. This award was given for Excellence in Medicine & Cardiology. Dr K B Grant started Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune in 1959 with just two beds. Today it is a modern,tertiary care,550-bedded hospital. Dr Purvez Grant,chief cardiologist & managing trustee of Ruby Hall Clinic,received this award on behalf of his father.
Appointments
Pune Obstetrics and Gynaecological Societys (POGS) new committee took charge from April 1 and the event was marked by a Continuing Medical Education (CME). Dr Charuchandra Joshi is the president,while general secretary Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar,chief of IVF and Endoscopy unit of Ruby Hall Clinic,and clinical secretary Dr Manish Machave have also been appointed to the committee. They intend to plan social events to highlight womens issues pertaining to safe motherhood,cancers,adolescent health and problems of the elderly.
Oncology Centre
The centre for Advanced Gastrointestinal Oncology CAGO,is an endeavour by the Ruby Hall Clinics Kamalnayan Bajaj Cancer Centre to provide state-of-the-art advanced care to the people in and around Pune city. The CAGO team has decided to highlight the need for a specialist GI cancer centre with a series of conferences updating doctors in the field on the latest in treatment. The centre has organised a single-day surgical workshop on April 10 on gastric and pancreatic cancers with a special focus on minimal invasive surgery. A surgical workshop,with live surgical demonstration from one of the world’s leading experts,would be the highlight of the conference. Dr Minish Jain,chief medical oncologist,CAGO,expects over 300 specialists from all over India at the conference.
