The state government constituted grievance redressal panel will take a call on whether to pay salaries to teachers of the Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisation (MFUCTO),who had taken part in the three month long strike which began on February 4.

Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Tope made a formal statement to this effect in the State Legislature in reply to a calling attention motion by Shiv Sena MLC Diwakar Rawate.

The government had withheld the salaries by issuing a notification on March 6,which invoked the ‘no work-no pay’ principle.

MFUCTO has already expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that the grievances redressal committee is not represented by the teaching community. “We have no hope that the issue will get solved, for the simple reason that we have no voice in the committee. Ministers and senior bureaucrats are sitting on the panel,so we do not expect justice,” a senior MFUCTO leader said.

To comply with directives from the Bombay High Court,a grievances redressal committee was formed at the end of last month to serve as a platform for college and university teachers to raise grievances or demands.

The eight member grievances redressal panel is headed by Tope with the minister of state for higher and technical education as its vice-chairman.

Principal secretaries of higher and technical, finance, planning, law and judiciary are also members of the panel.
